Cannuccette Valley Natural Monument

This Natural Monument, extended for only 15 hectares, arises on a chalky land not far from Palestrina (the ancient Praeneste) and dominates the green area. The natural monument is a forest of a really fascinating naturalistic beauty, it seems like it has never been touched by time: junction of paths and mule tracks, everywhere you can listen to the sound of many sources, that are channelled into an underground aqueduct dating back to Roman times. Vegetation is made of maples, oaks, beech trees and downy birch forests; instead the green area is home of squirrels, dormice, hazel dormouse and an extremely rich variety of birds. You can visit the Valley following two footpaths, respectively at one and three km from Castel San Pietro Romano.
